First Project of the New Year

I made new covers for the throw cushions on my couch.  It's nothing special, but I enjoyed sewing them.  And that's a big deal, because I haven't had a desire to sew for several months. It feels good to enjoy sewing again.  The fabric came from my stash and there was just enough of each fabric to make a cover.  So, that's good too.  And most importantly, I love my new cushions.

Throw Cushions

I finished one of the items on my list of craft type sewing projects.  These are throw cushions for the couch in my sitting room. This was a really simple project, and I love how they turned out. This pretty fabric came from Joann Fabrics.

Patio Swing Cushions

I finally finished the cushion covers and canopy for my patio swing. I got the fabric at the beginning of summer, but put it off as I dreaded it.  The cushion covers weren't too bad to make, but the canopy was a pain.  The worst part was I made it too small on the corners - which meant I had to remove it from the frame (which is not easy), make alterations to it, and then put it back on.  It's not great, but it's done. 

I got the fabric on clearance at a local fabric outlet store for $4.00 yd.  It's an exterior fabric - either nylon or polyester and hopefully will last at least a couple summers.   And it's the right color to go with the rest of the patio furniture.  I'm so glad it's finished!

Tablecloth

I made a new tablecloth for my round kitchen/dining table. 

I recently noticed that my tablecloth had a couple stains that wouldn't come off and decided I needed to replace it - whenever.  Yesterday as I was looking thru a box of fabric, for something else, I came across this 2 yd piece of red/black plaid.  It's a nice crisp fabric, right color & just big enough for a tablecloth! A fabric stash is a good thing.  So in a couple hours - ta-da, new tablecloth!

It wasn't quite big enough across, so I trimmed a little off the end and added it to the side.  And thanks to the plaid, you can't even tell where the seam is.  I trimmed a little off the corner points so they wouldn't be so long.  And instead of hemming it, I used black bias tape for the edges.  Don't you just love black bias tape! 
 

 It's cold and wintery here, so that plaid looks appropriate :)

Sewing Room Makeover is Complete

It's finally done!  And I really like how it turned out.  Especially love the yellow and blue color combination.  The walls are sponge painted yellow on white.

This is the sewing corner.  I made covers for the serger & one of the machines.

A simple pleated valance with roller shade underneath.  The shade is one I've had for years & was stored in a closet.  It just happened to look good with the curtain fabric.  Don't you love when that happens!

And my favorite part - a magnetic board I made using an oil drip pan (for $10.00) and covered with fabric.  I love it!  I saw this idea on Pinterest.






























 
This is my cutting/pressing table.  I found the yellow baskets at Big Lots & the blue at the Dollar Tree.  The blue ones are the perfect size for patterns.

I covered two cardboard boxes to store craft
supplies.


I have a couple more boxes that I may either paint or cover with fabric.













The sewing room's finished and cleaned up, so it's time to sew something pretty & springy!
