Back Yoke Knit Top

After recently making McCall's 7284  in a woven fabric,  I decided I'd like a knit top with a back yoke.    So for this top, I used the back of the McCall's pattern and the  front of Vogue 9057.

The fabrics I used:  The print is an ITY I bought on-line several years ago - I think from FabricMart; the black is a thin rayon blend from Joann Fabrics; and the purple lace came from Walmart.  I also used the black underneath the lace.

Pattern of the Year - Vogue 9057

While looking over the list of items I made this year, I was surprised at how many times I've made this pattern.

Jogger Pants

I decided to make a pair of jogger pants - aka sweatpants.

When I searched my inventory for a pattern to use, I came across this one.  I actually
bought it with plans to make the top,  but I never did.

I'm always looking for that pants pattern   - one that's both flattering and comfortable.  And I think I've found it.

I used a sweatshirt type knit that I've had for several years.  For the waistband and cuffs, I used the wrong side of the fabric - which is solid gray. The fabric is very soft, so the pants are so comfortable. Since the pattern is designed for wovens, and I used a knit, they are a little looser fitting.

I'm so glad I gave this pattern a try.  The ONLY change I made was to remove some from the top of the pants as they came up too high. I'm pretty happy with how they turned out.

I decided to make a 2nd pair using a woven - some kind of a poly. For this pair, I narrowed the legs from the knee down. Of course, they aren't as comfortable as the knit pair, but they're good.  I hope with minor modifications this will become my TNT pants pattern.

Black & White Dots Top

I've finished another top.

I used Vogue 9057 and made view B.   With a few changes I got the loose tunic type top that I wanted.  First, I lengthened it by 2 inches.  Then I added fullness through the waist and hips by moving the center of the pattern away from the fold of the fabric.  And, obviously, I shortened the sleeves.  I really like how it turned out.

The black and white dot fabric is a light weight ITY that's perfect for summer tops. It's very soft and was easy to work with.  I don't remember where I got it, but I bought 4 yards.  This top only took 1 yard, so I still have a lot of it left.

The black fabric that I used for the sleeves is a thin poly knit from Joann's. I also used it for the neckband. This is the method I used for the neck: cut a strip 2 inches wide and fold it in half; attach it to the neck and then serge the seam; then fold the seam down and top stitch.

I like the contrast of the black sleeves and neckband with the print fabric.  I also like the rounded shape of the hem.

Sheer Top

Sometimes the simplest things turn out to be the best.  Like this top:

The fabric is a sheer black and silver that I got at Joann's.  I paid $5.25 a yard and only used 1 yard.  I made narrow bias binding from a light-weight silvery/gray fabric I had in my stash, and used it to finish the neck, sleeves and hem.

I wear it with a black cami underneath.  It's nice and cool on these hot summer days.

I didn't have a pattern for what I wanted, so I altered Vogue 8880. I removed the waistline seam and the neckline darts.

I like how it turned out.  It's comfortable and fun and I get compliments whenever I wear it.

Knit Tops

I recently made four knit tops and decided to review all of them in one post.

For the first top, I used a Marcy Tilton pattern - Vogue 9057.  I love this pattern.

Here's the front

And the back

Side view

The print fabric was purchased several years ago at WalMart and this is the second top I've made from it.  It's a poly-blend, but is actually pretty nice.

For the 2nd top, I used this New Look pattern.

A black & gray lace sweatshirt

I like this top, except I made the neckline too big.  It's too low, especially for a winter time, so I wear a lightweight top underneath it.

Another Vogue 9057

For this one, I used a reversible knit from Joann Fabrics.  It's dots on one side and stripes on the other.  I had planned to use the striped side for the sleeves or maybe the back or even the cuffs,  but I didn't really like the look of it.   It seems like a wasted opportunity, but I just couldn't make it work.  So I only used the stripe for the neckband.

Last one and my favorite

For this top, I used Butterick 5925

This is the 2nd time I've made this pattern.  I made my usual size medium, but I changed the shape of the neckline and added cuffs to the sleeves.

The print fabric is a beefy cotton blend that I've had for a long time, and don't remember where I bought it.  I love the colors & pattern of the print and it's so soft & comfy.  For contrast, I used a blue ponte for the side inserts, sleeve cuffs and neck binding; and a black/gray slub for the pockets.
